New Season Calendar of the Abu Dhabi Falconers Club Released:

The Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club held a press conference on Sunday, October 6, 2013 to announce the release of its calendar for the 2013/2014 falconry season.

The press conference was held at the Conference Hall of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Sultan Al Mahmood, Executive Director of the Club and Obaid Al Mazrouie, Head of the Club’s Media Committee.

The Abu Dhabi Falconry Club has been promulgated recently by the General Authority for Sports & Youth Welfare in order to cater for falconry competitions, to enhance and maintain this type of ancestral sport and to convey it to current and new generations.

Top on the list of the competitions of the Club for the 2013/2014 season will be the prestigious and multidiscipline “Presidents Falconry Cup” which will start in current October and will be concluded in January 2014 as AED 15000000 (fifteen million) will be the total money purse of the event.

The Presidents Falconry Cup competitions will be organized by the Club in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC).

41 luxury cars will also be given away to top winners. There will also be the newly introduced “Falconer of the Season” prize to be granted to the respective falconer 

whose falcons qualify to the finals of the various disciplines of the event, as well as on the total number of points he collects during the whole season.

Rules, conditions and procedures of registration to take part in the Presidents Falconry Cup competitions are included in the comprehensive Directory of the event and the website of the Club.

 The Presidents Falconry Cup competitions come in response to the keenness of His Highness the President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, directives of General His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, care of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Rulers Representative in the Western Region, and the direct supervision of HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in order to maintain this type of heritage sport.

The multidiscipline President’s Falconry Cup competitions will include “Telwah”, training of falcons with balloons, and training of falcons with wireless aircrafts.

The President’s Falconry Cup competitions will include exclusive rounds for Sheikhs,  rounds for public competitors, rounds for falcons of  less- than- one- year old, and round for chick falcons.  
Competitions will be held at Baniyas and Al Falah Areas in Abu Dhabi and will start on 28th, 29th, and 30th October 2013 with the qualifying rounds for training of falcons with balloons.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd of November are for training with wireless aircrafts discipline.  Telwah competitions will take place on 14th, 15th, 16th, 28th, 29th and 30th November 2013. 

Training with balloons qualifying rounds will be held on 21st, 22nd and 23rd of November 2013, while the month of December 2013 will witness the staging of the final qualifying rounds on the 5th,
6th and 7th for training of falcons with wireless 
aircrafts, 13th, 14th, 26th, 27th, 28th for Telwah competitions, and 19th, 20th and 21st for training with balloons competition.

There will be anti-doping tests for all falcons to take part in the President’s Falconry Cup competitions. Tests will be made in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Falcons’ Hospital. This move comes to make sure that all competitions will be fair and just.

In total, there will be 41 rounds in the President’s Falconry Cup competitions 2013/2014, with 41 luxury cars worth AED 8 million to be given to winners, as well as AED 7 million and 20 thousand in cash making the total money purse of the event an AED 15 million and 20 thousand. 
   
Competitions of the President Falconry Cup will be concluded in the period from 17 to 31 January 2014. Dates might be subject to changes to weather conditions or due to any force majeure circumstances.

Regarding the “falconer of the Season” prize; it shall be granted to the winner who meets all the required rules and conditions as shown on the Directory of the competitions and the official website of the Club.

Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club, Sultan Al Mahmood, valued the limitless support and care given to UAE falconry and falconers by His Highness the President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may Almighty Allah preserve him). 

Al Mahmood expressed and extended their thanks and gratitude to General His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown prince and Deputy Supreme 

Commander of the Armed Forces for his generous support and patronage to UAE heritage sports, and for his wise directives in this respect.

 Sultan Al Mahmood also lauded the care and keenness of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, and Chairman of the Emirates Falconers’ Club, and HH Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Vice Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council for their generous support and care to revive, maintain and to enhance UAE heritage sports.

For his part, Obaid Al Mazrouie, Head of Media Committee at the Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club, expressed their thanks to Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Emirates Falconers’ Club, and the Abu Dhabi Falcons’ Hospital for their coordination and cooperation with the Abu Dhabi falconers’ Club to make the activities of the club that successful in order to contribute to mainlining this type of dear sport.

He congratulated all falconers on the announcing and releasing of the Club’s calendar for the new season He wished them all the best and good luck, and emphasized the importance of heritage sports and the role of falconers to maintain this part and this type of sport.

Concluding his statement, Al Mazrouie once again thanked ADSC and the Emirates Falconers’ Club for their cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club so as to maintain this type of sport and to make the President Falconry Cup Competitions 2013/2014 an event to be remembered for a very long time to come.
